Dyes and Pigments
What are the difference between dyes and pigments
Before explain this process I hope to explain how colour appeared in to human eye. When sunlight falls on the object, it absorb certain amount of white light ( sunlight) frequency and other amount are reflected by object. Therefore can be seen only that reflected light only, and that frequency has particular colour and human eye will see object by that colour.
Colorant are twofold and they are,
* Dyes
* Pigments
In this article I hope to give you basic idea about dyes and pigments.
Dyes
Dyes are chemical substances and absorb by textile material and somtimes change chemical composition by reacting inter molecular chains of fiber. Therefore finer sunlight frequency absorb and reflected value are changed.
Examples: Reactive dyes, Vat dyes
Pigments
Pigments are also chemical substances which are not absorb by finer and work as surface layer of textile material. Therefore widely used for printing purposes such as screen printing. In this pigment layer change white light absorbing range and change light reflecting range, hence object colour will be changed.
