Environmental Pollution in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a conventionally known as agricultural country but in last twenty years it is being somewhat industrial growth due to the industrial revaluation of country due to population enlargement and technology improvement. According to the population growth of country it is difficult to fulfill their requirements by using conventional resources and industries hence, government have to approve new industries and services to fulfill consumer needs and wants. By considering other countries just like United States of America and china, our country greenhouse gas emission levels are very low according to industrial enlargement. Therefore government has mitigated environmental rules than other countries to grow local as well as foreign entrepreneur in Sri Lanka. Although it is good news for business world but it is not good news for environment lovers like us. Here I hope to critically discuss this statement by giving suitable example.     According to the government mitigation of environmental rules following may happen and greenhouse gases emission will increase to our environment.

Destroying Forest
According to issuing new permits for the cutting trees some people cut forest without controlling environment concepts. Trees of the earth are main sources to absorb emitted carbon dioxide. In photosynthesis process trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Therefore it is very helpful to keep unity of green house effect. In increasing greenhouse effect unusually without balance due to the forest percentage in world, the environment temperature of earth rise and not balance hence, glacier of North and South Pole will be dissolve and mix with sea water.
Then some islands may fall under sea water. Sri Lanka also highly affected this some land area being to decay. The best example is sea erosion of wellawatta, and kollupitiya beach of Sri Lanka.

Wood Burning
Another thing is wood burning in industry and also according to wood burning, highly release carbon dioxide. This burning is not recoverable hence; it is helps to increase greenhouse effect.

Crude Oil Burning
Crude oil refining products just like diesel, gasoline, kerosene contains hydrocarbon molecules and in burning that in vehicle engine sometime not burning process not done as 100% then unburned hydrocarbon release to environment and generate greenhouse effect by carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.

Coal Burning
Coals are also highly carbon based soils and those are releases large amount of greenhouse gases when burning. The best example is Norochchole power plant is running by consuming coal and release huge Co, Co2, So2, and other harmful greenhouse gases per day. It cannot be controlled using trees and 16% of forest content of Sri Lanka. And by depositing unburdened carbon on plant leaf may reduce photosynthesis process and absorbency of carbon dioxide amount may reduce.

Un-burned Gases Emission
Unburned gases emission may occur even domestic usage for an example our domestic gas cooker can be taken. In there, if yellow flame may see it says unburn is occurred and if blue flame seen it says fully burning. In the industry unburned gases may released highly therefore that released greenhouse gases affect to quick climatic change in environment. Therefore this topic is also need to be discussed.

Harmful Gases Emission
We all know our earth’s ozone layer is very important to keep proper greenhouse effect. But some toxic chemicals just like CFC are harmful to ozone effect and that chemical contains inside refrigerators, perfumes, some air conditioning machines. Although in our country CFC is prohibited but some related are not prohibited and I think by emission that toxic chemicals it is affect to climate changes and that point is need to be discussed.

How to eliminate…
Although Sri Lanka’s greenhouse gas emission levels are very low compared to many other countries I think it is growing highly. So government must amend new rules to limit greenhouse gas emission because is critical topic and also government should introduce new industrial procedures to minimize greenhouse gases and any other toxic chemical releasing environment to avoid unusual climatic changes. If we control this today, our future will be grateful to our children.
