CHAPTER 1
1.1
Introduction
Textile colouration is an essential part of textile
manufacturing process. Because it is an advantage to attract new customer
toward particular finished garment or fabric then increase sales volume and
profitability of organization. Colour of the fabric is very important when
finished garment manufacturing. It gives new appearance for the finished
fashions. Basically colouration is done for textiles in several stages and they
are, yarn colouration, fabric colouration, and finished garment colouration. Colourant
are two types and they are dyes and pigments. Dyes are affinity to substrate
into textile material and pigments are not affinity to substrate into fiber. Commonly
dyes are water soluble and pigments are not water soluble. When discussing more
about dyes, they are twofold as natural dyes and synthetic dyes. Synthetic dyes
are produced mainly by product of petroleum refining or chemical reactions
process. That produced dyes are used to colour fabrics and, those are harmful
to the human body. And also when these costumes are dressing, it will generate
skin disorders with uncomfortable situation. Therefore modern textile industry
has turned to new natural dyeing resources instead synthetic dyes such as
plants, mineral, etc. And very popular resource is plant based dye types and
that are extracted by flower, seeds, stem, leaves, roots, etc. Most plant dyes
contain eco-friendly natural chemical compounds and those can be applied even
babies wear based applications. In this project I wish to discuss fabric
colouration with xxxxxxx dye extracted by xxxxxx xxxx.
xxxx dye is an eco-friendly dye and which contains anthocyanin
colourant matter. By water extraction process with boiling, anthocyanin can be
extracted into the water bath. Anthocyanin based xxxxx dye changes it own
colour by changing different pH values hence, different colours can be taken in
textile bath. xxxx dyes are mordant friendly hence, mordants can be used to
keep good dye fixing and physical properties of dyed textiles. This dye fixing
and physical properties and characteristics improvement can be processed even
multi mixing two or more mordants in different stage of fabric colouration. In
depth distribution of xxxxx dyeing, that dye can be processed in aquatic
medium by changing optimum liquor ratio of dye bath. After colouration process,
L*, a*, b* colour test and other physical and chemical tests can be done to
check real situation of dyed fabric. xxxxxx production can be
taken any time of the year hence continuously can be applied for fabric
colouration of production. And also xxxxx plantation can be started within
any climatic change. It is an advantage to get more harvest in short time
period without additional farming costs.
